On August 12, 1955, WPBT2 went on the air without a penny of tax money having been spent. There was no budget, no income, no paid staff and even the station’s transmitter and antenna had been donated. The broadcast schedule was two hours a day, five days a week, with summers off. Sixty years later, WPBT2 is South Florida’s Flagship PBS station, broadcasting engaging, educational and entertaining content 24 hours a day, 7 days a week across three television channels, as well as online, on mobile and OTT devices like Roku, Apple TV and Fire TV.

Chief Administration Officer (CAO)

SFPBS is looking for a forward-thinking financial mind to play a key role in the strategic and financial planning process of the company, providing analysis and recommendations of finances and operations. The top candidate will work directly with the CEO, Board of Directors and senior management team, and is responsible for leading and managing the development of the annual operating budget and financial plan. In addition, the CAO advises on financial planning, budgeting, cash flow, investment priorities and policy matters. Additional responsibilities include: oversee the accounting department to ensure efficient accounting operations, act as risk manager for the corporation, manage all insurance needs and ensure compliance and proper contract administration

Minimum of 10 years experience in a senior management role, with broad experience in financial risk management. Must have a solid understanding of non-profit accounting and private and government grant accounting. Experience should include audit, compliance, legal, budget and resource development. Experience with managing budgets for a public media organization preferred. Business or Accounting degree a must, with preference to an MBA or CPA.

Excellent judgement and creative problem solving skills including negotiation and conflict resolution skills. Superior management skills a must. Exceptional written, oral, interpersonal and presentation skills. Experience working with Boards.

Vice President, Content & Community Partnerships

South Florida PBS has recently announced the merger of WPBT2 serving Florida’s Miami-Dade and Broward counties with WXEL serving the Palm Beaches and the Treasure Coast. This event places it in the top 10 largest Television markets in America. This is a terrific opportunity for the right candidate. South Florida PBS is seeking an innovative executive to develop a comprehensive content strategy focused on television broadcast, digital initiatives and content partnerships. This executive will position South Florida PBS as an innovative multi-platform media company and top community partner for public media in South Florida.

The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of eight years’ experience working in television broadcast/digital media with experience working at a senior level. Must have demonstrated success in production fundraising. Extensive experience with programming and digital communication strategies, history of building strategic partnerships and a passion for and experience working in public media desired. Multi Media Communications & Outreach Specialist

Works with team members to market & promote WPBT2’s program services through multi media platforms including social media & other emerging opportunities. Development & Membership

Director, New Business Development

South Florida PBS seeks innovative individual to lead efforts to identify, develop and solidify partnerships that drive new business revenue and business opportunities to support local productions of WPBT2 & WXEL.

Works collaboratively and strategically to identify, recruit, nurture and close large strategic partnership opportunities and revenue projects for both WPBT2 and WXEL. Cultivates new business, corporations and individuals as underwriters for local productions, local acquisitions and special station events. Generates new forms of revenue which relate directly or indirectly to existing facilities and services and devises marketing plans and materials to attract venture partners/clients, from traditional broadcast services and online applications, to creating new initiatives with current and upcoming technologies including the coordination and implementation of apps. Negotiates complex transactions and coordinates strategic initiatives with select partners. Creates and executes business plans to ensure strategic partnerships support the overall business goals of South Florida PBS.

The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of 5 to 7 years experience and demonstrated experience in developing strategic partnerships with a focus on business development. Manager, Fundraising & On-Air Marketing

WPBT2 is looking for a skilled leader with a passion for fundraising and production. Organized and driven, this individual will oversee and manage the execution of all direct response initiatives and programs. Lead and grow all member stewardship programs, create reports and analyze data to identify fundraising trends; will implement, streamline and improve fundraising and cultivation initiatives on different platforms. Participation in determining strategies for on-air fundraising campaigns including promotional, branding and messaging as well as special incentives and events. Provides guidance to the on-air producer. Assists in the creation of pledge-related programming. Helps develop annual plan for all membership activities, manages budgets and supports the Sr. VP of Development & Marketing. Leads and mentors membership staff.

College degree in Business, Marketing, or Public Relations or equivalent. Five years experience in membership, donor or client acquisition and retention, direct marketing, fundraising (or related field) preferred. Two years of supervisory and project management experience a must. Demonstrated ability in developing and managing campaigns and budgets. Excellent creative and writing abilities a must. Ability to motivate, direct and empower a diverse staff. Works extended hours during on-air campaigns.

Freelance Account Executive

WPBT2 seeks experienced Account Executive to sell national PR services such as corporate video productions, media relations support, radio services, online and all media distribution to support PR firms and Corporate Communications. Knowledge of news production, B-roll distribution, Satellite Media Tours, will be extremely helpful for this position to be successful. Position collaborates within the sales team, and provides sound counsel and recommendations to clients. You will offer PR services to help drive solutions for clients, and revenue for the company.

The candidate will be responsible for reaching out and making capabilities presentations to PR firms and companies who will use our services. You are a closer of business, and will be responsible for reaching sales targets and goals each month.

The successful candidate is entrepreneurial, resourceful, tenacious, and has a strong understanding of traditional and non-traditional PR tactics and the media landscape; 3-6 years in PR agency experience with clients preferred. We are looking for a candidate with:
• Sales experience with a good consultative selling style;
• Proven success in building relationships and driving sales results;
• Strong presentation skills, with experience working directly with clients and actively participating in client meetings;
• Collaborative spirit, results driven with the ability to manage multiple priorities;

WPBT2 provides students with an opportunity to combine work experience and professional development to enhance their formal education. We provide practical work experience to balance the students' theoretical training and allow students to meet and learn from professionals in the field and develop a network of contacts. To be considered for an internship students must be enrolled in college/university in which their coursework requires internship hours.
